How to Properly Care for Your Patio Furniture

Summer is finally here!! After a long on-again-off-again winter, it’s time to break out the patio furniture and the grill. Let the backyard barbeques begin!

In order to keep your patio furniture looking fresh and new all year round, it is important to maintain it properly. Here are some tips and tricks you can apply to your summer and winter routines to make your patio furniture look like you just bought it.

  • If you’re in the beginning stages of buying a new set of patio furniture, this first step is incredibly important. Think of where you live. If where you live has intense weather no matter the season, choose the fabric and base materials according to that. Don’t assume that “this summer will be different,” because, and especially if you live in Canada, the weather is always unpredictable. If you choose to go with a more expensive material, make sure you keep it in a spot where it can’t be easily damaged, such as under a veranda or other porch covering.
  • Store your furniture in the winter. If you have no place to store it, we recommend putting a cover or tarp over it to protect the materials from getting damaged under snow.
  • Clean the cushions and covers regularly. It is recommended to keep cushions free of dirt and other substances to wash both the covers and the cushions at least once a month. Not only will they be clean, but they will also look brand new. Wash according to manufacturer for best results.
  • If you have wooden furniture, it is important to seal and oil the wood regularly. This keeps the wood rejuvenated and looking brand new. There are many places you can purchase wood rejuvenator, including at our store in Vulcan. Excelsior products keep wood refreshed and looking new for months.
